A few updates on the upcoming schedule for the indoor season...

The Bergen County Relays, originally scheduled for 1/28, will now be held on Monday, 2/16 beginning at 8:30 AM at the Armory.

The Bergen County Championships (NOT BMOC!!!), originally scheduled from 2/16, will now be held on Wednesday 2/18 beginning at 11:30 AM at the Armory. The Frosh & Novice events will NOT be contested - Varsity only...sorry, kids!

The Garfield Classic, for the top throwers & high jumpers from the 1st three Garfield Shot/HJ meets held in January & February, originally scheduled for 2/18 will now be held on Thursday, 2/26 at Garfield HS. This could be competitive, as the fields are pretty even thus far and some could be using this meet as a final tune-up for Nationals or just one last chance to compete during the indoor season!

And, a shameless plug...the 2nd Annual Ironman Invitational will be held on Thursday 4/30/09 at Don Bosco Prep HS. We will have the same events as last year, including the 1500m, 5000m, Coaches/Alumni/Open 1500m and Super Sprint Medley (1-1-2-4) all under the lights and with actual music this year! Any questions, contact me!

So most schools have a state meet on saturday, and then Bergen Relays on Monday and then they can go to the Bergen Championships and then smoc on saturday! Dont like it, they should of just left the bergen relays out of the picture and stuck with the original schedule. Why cram it in?

The reason why the County Relays are scheduled for Monday is that this is one of the few team championships of the indoor season. Having it on Monday is a good idea because if kids had planned to vacation the rest of the week they will still be able to go and not hurt their teams. The county meet on Wednesday is not a team championship, and while important it is not as important as some other meets in the winter. About 4 or 5 years ago the same schedule was put in place because the previous date had been snowed out and it worked pretty well. It is a bit crammed, but the kids can adjust.

Who goes on vacation in the middle of February? Don't kids have school?

You would be surprised how many schools in Northern NJ have the week of President's Day off. This has been customary since the 1950s in many schools. School systems save days from the fall when other schools are off so that a week off is at the end of February.
