I doubt you could just go for a 7 mile run in them. The Free is supposed to let you run as if you're running barefoot, which means that you'd land on the balls of your feet. I tried this once on a 4 mile run and it felt fine, but my calves were sore for two days afterwards.

I got them but i cant run in them every day or else my foot really really hurts and i cant walk. I am not sure if they fit perfect but when my foot isnt hurting they feel really good to run in. i have built up very slowly and can do like 5-7 miles in them now. they are also real good for speed workouts, help you run more naturally at higher speeds.

I have tried them before, but I don't own any. If you train in them, you should probably have another pair of normal trainers to switch off with.

sorry if this is a dumb question, but how does it help to feel like you're running bare foot? Does it really do much for you?

no. theres no need for it.

1. there neither better/worse than trainers...it depends on the person

2. yes you can go on 7 mile runs with them. In fact i wear them ALL the time. 60 min runs, 8 mile runs, even on interval training.

3. If your hurting afterwards thats because your not running properly and/or your foot muscles are highly undeveloped. Thats one of hte purposes of the Free to let you be aware of what is wrong with your running technique (landing of the foot) Also wearing normal running shoes the developement of the calf muscles is altered as compared to barefoot. running, which would explain your soarness in the calves.

the thing about barefoot running is- when most people run they land on their heels, something that is painful and the body will automatically adjust to stop the feeling of pain. but the highly cushioned shoes people wear allow them to slam their heels all they want without any feeling. thus, bad form takes over, unefficient form.

^^^ great two posts.

My suggestions to all you people who wanna try out the free's is to just buy flats instead. Or buy free's and then after ur done with training in those buy a set of flats after. The free's heel is almost as big as a regular trainer.
