this just had me wondering... like many olimpic sports (gymnastic, ice skating and a majority of summer olimic sports), could track start to turn more twards personal trining for high school level athletes then team trianing. alot of schools have gymnastics teams.. but non of the good gymnist at those school acctuly compete for the school. it seems more and more top athletes every year seem to be switching over to more personal trianing. though for the masses high school track is awsoem and develops the avg runer.. i think top runners leaving theer teams will only lead to more and more outstanding distance runners in the us

some athletes have turned to idividual training in high school- galen rupp being trained by al sal for example.
personally i think that if you are going to run for your highschool, you should be coached by your highschool coach. If he says its ok for someone else to train you then go ahead(because hes not experianced enough to deal with a high caliber distance runer or somesuch). But i think its unfair to a coach to have to deal with a kid on his team that he can't coach...the athlete then has to make a decision, compete for his school on the team, or use a private coach and don't compete on a highschool team
