You need to lay off the mushrooms.
Obamacare's ultimate outcome is the virtual elimination of private insurance. Roll your eyes all you want, that is the practical effect of everything that is being proposed. Obama and the dems have villified the insurance companies at every turn. Barry is on record repeatedly praising a "single payer system" (aka socialized medicine) and acknowledging that he won't be able to elminate private insurance "right away."
Need any proof? Run my proposal up the flagpole of any prominent democrat and see what the response is. That's precisely why I got the question I did from the opinion page editor and why it hasn't been published. I have said all along that Obama's health care "reform" has NOTHING to do with healthcare. Healthcare is merely the vehicle being used to socialize another part of the economy. Very smart stategy really, but it's precisely why I think this bill should be a call to arms (speaking figuratively, of course).
What I am proposing opens up health insurance to virtually every legal resident (notice I didn't say citizen; I would make this system available to LEGAL immigrants, including those on work permits, student visas and the like. If you came in LEGALLY or are granted political asylum, you get this. ILLEGAL aliens are SOL).
To be fair, some on my side of the aisle will squeal like a stuck pig over the notion of regulation of pre-existing conditions. They need to get over it. The regulation will be dicey but can be done (did I ever mention that I spent a year clerking for the state insurance department when I was in law school?)
