our regional championship(western half of Maine) was Saturday. I'd been having a good season and had been coming on really strong. I'd run 18 and 13 second PR's in 2 of the last 3 meets and the week I didn't PR we ran at a tough and wet course and I was only 5 seconds off my PR. Needless to say, I felt ready to go to regionals and make it to states. The day before regionals(which was supposed to actually happen on the 24th) they decided to postpone the race because it was supposed to be real nasty weather.
Anyways....I finished 52nd in 19:02 and didn't even come close to making it to states. I needed to be in the top 20...20th was in the mid 17:50's and I'd run 17:19 in the last regular season meet. I'm not really sure what happened to me. I guess it was probably a combination of peaking too early because I'd planned to peak for the 24th and straight up just not having a good day.
It's a sad way to end my high school XC career but I'll just have to redeem myself in indoor. 10 days off and I'll start getting ready for indoor.

first actual run today since paul short (32 days due to severe shin splints/stress reaction in lower tibia in left leg) and it hurt so bad. my cardio feels nonexistent and my shoulders hurt and everything except my leg
20 consecutive minutes on some trails nearby. staying only on grass/trails for the next few weeks and no more than 20 minutes runs for two of those weeks. after that build to 30 minute runs and take it from there. i hate injuries

yesterday: 40 min easy
today: 10 min up, 2 mi @ 5:41 pace then called it quits during a 4 mile tempo
My season is probably over, I couldn't even finish a 4 mile tempo today. I just can't see anyway I can get into peaking shape by sunday. It's probably best to just take a few weeks off, I need to get away from running for awhile.

Dont feel discouraged man, everyone has workouts that don;t go their way. Last year I had a week where I didn't do any workouts and cut my milage due to my knee. After that week i did a 3xmile workout with 7min rest and struggled to hit times 20 seconds slower than I aimed for. (This was the end of xc by the way). Just a week after that I had the race of my life. Try to keep optimistic, those 100mile weeks from the summer and all of your workouts are still under your belt.

That's what I did when I first got sick, nothing but easy runs. I was still sick, so then I took 2 days completely off then another easy run. Still wasn't any better, it would be stupid to prolong it any more. I'd rather get over it now so I have more time to get in some base before indoor.
