SPASH has this concept really well thought out, they train hard all fall, their hardest week of training is usually the week before conference. As a result they almost always show up the last 3 weeks of the season with their legs underneath them.

Another logistical problem is the discrepancies between courses in the state. For instance a 15:50 on Verona is an absolutely stellar performance, whereas the same time on Lake Breeze wouldn't be impressive at all. Unless some body started using the speed rating system to compare courses the idea would fail, and considering we can't keep a proper track all-time list, I doubt that someone will compile years of data for most big courses...
I agree with just about everything you are saying here. One thing however that I have mentioned before is that Spash's conference is pretty weak and they can train right through that and still win easily. When is the last time someone beat them in their conference or even challenged them closely. It was probably a DC Everest team at some point. Even their sectional is very easy. They can lay back and let it fly at state. Some teams wanting to win their conference and just qualify to state have to lay it on the line 2 weeks in a row before state. That's not easy and then still have some gas left for a run at the title. Verona is tough but that 15:50 at Lake Breeze would still equate to a 16:20 at Verona and that's not chicken feed but it won't win state Div I.

Sorry for the big words.
I am having a hard time distinguishing whether you were trying to simply sound intelligent in front of the high school crowd or you were just being plain arrogant.

Please share what you have achieved in your lifetime that warrants you to say such an awful thing.

Why does it matter how hard their conference meet is? It's the fault of the other teams in their conference as well as their sectional that it's easy for SPASH to win. Step up and challenge them. Besides, there are other teams that have weak conferences and those that don't do not have to run all out to win a conference title. What does a conference title matter when it comes to the big picture? You have to know when to take your licks in order to accomplish bigger things.

The boys Div 1 race was a perfect example of that. Incredibly, both the state & individual champs didn't even win their conference meet. Props to the Greater Metro, who produced the top two teams (BC, Marq) and 3 of the top 5 individuals (Paulson, Erschen, Casey)

It matters because it allows them to train through it without any precaution. I doubt the rest of the WVC rolls over every year and lets Steven's Point take it to them. Although this is a redundant fact, it may have something to do with Steven's Point getting 80+ guys each year. Its hard to be successful with a fifth of the athletes that funnel through schools like Marquette's, Steven's Point's and Madison West's running programs. That still doesn't mean it can't be done, it is just harder. With that said, it is probably a combination of both a severe gouge in morale from over the years, coaching and the member differential. Still, there is little question that the WVC is the weaker of the conferences for the consistent State caliber teams.

Is the State meet the only representative in the big picture? I think most coaches consider the conference meet to be an integral focus to their season. The Conference Meet is not an Invite. It is a championship race for the majority of teams because there is a lot of pride, history, whatever on the line. The only time the conference meet is a little overlooked is when you win it 20 times in a row and the next place team is at a severe deficit. Like Steven's Point's situation. If they were to lose one, I guarantee the next year it wouldn't be overlooked.

As far as you guys who want to debate word derivations and get all a-twitter over typos, I don't have time for that.

We don't really have time for your crap either. Maybe you should crawl back over to LR. You've pretty much been an abrasive punk since you showed up.

Today, while at the state cross country meet, I saw a girl in a banana suit screaming and running away from a gorilla. Twenty minutes later, I saw about ten bananas menacingly surrounding the gorilla. Needless to say, I believe their vengeance has finally been fulfilled. MLIA

just thought this had to be shared.

That very same gorilla sat silently on a couch at a Madison house party for an hour that night. He sure does get around. However, you might have gotten him confused with the girl gorilla who was just hanging out with a pack of bananas at state.
