We had this problem a few years back. First, you need to line the course with sprinklers and overhead misters. Start running them 2 days before the meet, about 6 hours a day. Then on the day of the meet crank them up to full blast. Also, I would recommend an official with a pressure washer every half-mile or so to simulate hurricane conditions. About the sun, the athletes will just have to deal with it. Covering the whole course with a giant tarp would just be impractical. Oh, I almost forgot. Make sure to cover all the up and down hills with slip and slides, and ensure that every athlete is running barefoot and wearing the proper swim gear (goggles and such). Hope all this helps.

Perhaps the sun will encourage the TSSAA officials to come out of their cave. However, the real fine football playoffs are starting the day before the state, with 17 teams with losing records. Maybe not.

From the 2009 NCAA CC Handbook:

Tickets
[Reference: Tickets in the Division I General Section and Bylaw 31.1.13 in the NCAA
Manual.]
Ticket prices may be suggested by the host institution and must be approved by
the Division I track and field subcommittee. A student ticket price with ID card is
permissible for students of participating institutions and the host institution of the
division championships. For the 2009 championships, ticket prices for adults and
students will be $5. Children ages two and under will be admitted free of charge.

How can TSSAA justify charging 2X as much for spectators as the NCAA D1 Cross Country Championships -- someone needs to get a grip on reality !!!!!!
