I ref high school soccer, and I've seen more nasty stuff from guys, but I think once girls get to a certain point they get nasty, most likely college. I've given a few reds to some guys for some subtle stuff that I caught...

A few things that should have happened or need to happen:
-BYU players should have beat the hell out of that girl. No guys team at any level would watch that and not break out into a fight.
-NMU coach should have pulled the bitch out.
-A red card should have been pulled (obviously).
-The school needs to ban that girl for the rest of her college career. She's a complete embarrassment to not only herself, but the team and school.
I'm glad this got national attention, otherwise nothing would've happened.

University of New Mexico head women's soccer coach Kit Vela announced that Lambert, a junior defender, has been suspended indefinitely and prohibited from participating in practices, games and team workouts. In a statement released by the school, Lambert offered the following apology:
"I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions. My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration. This is in no way indicative of my character or the soccer player that I am. I am sorry to my coaches and teammates for any and all damages I have brought upon them. I am especially sorry to BYU and the BYU women's soccer players that were personally affected by my actions. I have the utmost respect for the BYU women's soccer program and its players."
Vela referred to Lambert as "a quality student-athlete," but added that the suspension was necessary because "her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship."
Lambert's cheap shots took place in a Mountain West Conference Tournament game that BYU won, 1-0. The game was televised, and Lambert's highlights (or lowlights) were shown on SportsCenter and went viral on YouTube.

It was just a thought. There's a lot of anger towards the Mormon Church right now among those who are pro-equality.

I suppose but it shouldn't have been acted on in the game. I don't have an urge to go beat up Mormons because of the rulings.
I tried to post this like 5 minutes ago but dyestat wouldn't load.

Well, I don't have an urge to beat up Mormons. But I do have an urge to sit the ****ers down who are fighting against equal rights and yell at them for a while about how ****ing wrong they are to take away others' rights with their own history of persecution.
I mean, Sudan is Israel's enemy, but you don't see the Jews supporting genocide. And I just invoked Godwin's Law! Booya!

You're throwing around some awfully hefty assumptions to link her piss poor sportsmanship to gay rights activism.
I counter Godwin's Law with Occam's Razor: of all possible reasons for her poor sportsmanship, which one is the simplest? Was it because she's a bitch and she always plays dirty, or she is upset about the current state of the gay rights movement and decided to inflict righteous justice during a soccer game against a school that is run by people who are anti-same sex marriage? Which one makes more sense, Phris?
To further put home my point, with all of the media attention she garnered from this, don't you think she would have said something about it in her statement? She had a good chunk of the country paying attention- is she had one iota of activist in her, she would have said something about it. Instead she apologized and left it at that.

I'm not assuming anything. Notice I said, "I really wonder if Tuesday's vote in Maine to take away gay rights was on Lambert's mind." Wonder is not a word that assumes.

But does she always play dirty? My first reaction was "how the hell was this girl playing for New Mexico in the first place?"

That would have been very, very negative media, and the statement put out was clearly penned with the help of the UNM athletic department.
