The way I heard it described, the Beecher runner grabbed another runner's uniform and pulled him back. Right in front of a race official. Uh oh.

The top 5 guys finished 1:39-1:55 faster at state than sectionals, which may have contributed to some underestimating of the top teams out of there and Carlinville finishing 3rd.

I dont think anyone underestimated the south.

1. Most felt south had one very good team in Carlinville, although I didnt expect them to trophy. I had them around fifth at best. "Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good" as the saying goes. Rare DQ obviously helped them. Very rare you get a 4th and 5th man run over 17:00 and still trophy.
But I know the Viano's and they are great people. Very happy for them.

2. Most thought that Sparta was decent but maybe a around tenth at best. They were 12th.

3. Most thought the next thre were going to finish at or near the bottom. They did.

Pretty much went to form I would say.

Not sure there were that many surprises or anyone who flew under radar, at least not in top ten.

8 of the top 10 were all-staters last year and the two that were not, Hoefle and Devereux just missed at 26th and 36th place respectively. And they both have had great years. Hoefle was second at her sectioal and Devereux third at hers.

Was this the first year they did team score updates during the race? I know the runners could hear it during the race and it provided some motivation.

Also they announced several times unofficial team results immediately after the race and it changed when it became official. I am all for both of these. Great for the fans. But I'm thinking coaches might have wanted to known about the announcing of team scores beforehand in case you had to break it to your team that you had a trophy but now you don't.

I think they started that last year, because I remember them saying at the 1.5-mile mark for 1A boys that Westmont had a slim lead over Elmwood at that point.

And as for the unofficial team results, that's great for the spectators to know. But I think the coaches would know that it's unofficial, and that it can still change and wouldn't count on anything until the final results were posted. If I were a coach, I would wait until the official results came out before I said anything to my team.

That's just my line of thinking. Both coaches' scenarios can still happen though..
