Default Shot put weight

so me and my friend (both distance runners) are having an argument over whether or not the weight of a shot put varies in weight from profesional to college to high school

I've never heard of any ages throwing a 10lb shot...and never in a HS meet.

but i did lose my bet

that doesnt make much sense why theyd be different, i mean in high school the hurdles are the same height and the track the same length, why are the shots different weight?

Going along the lines of that...my guess would be that since the original weight (used in the Olympics and NCAA) was so "heavy", they decided to lower the weight so younger aged kids would not get discouraged and/or injured throwing the heavier shot.
